The Manifesto of Play

Manifesto of Play by Jomike Tejido is both a celebration and a call to action—urging artists and creatives to reconnect with their inner child. Through this book, Tejido explores the importance of play, not as a frivolous pastime but as an essential force in sustaining creativity. He delves into childhood games, imaginary worlds, and the carefree spirit of youth, highlighting how these formative experiences shape artistic expression. His manifesto serves as a reminder that play should not be sacrificed in the pursuit of professional practice; rather, it should be an integral part of an artist’s work, fueling innovation and joy.

As an accompaniment to Tejido’s solo exhibition of the same name, Manifesto of Play was launched on March 12, 2024, at Galerie Stephanie. The book expands on the exhibition’s themes, offering insights into his artistic philosophy and the role of play in the creative process. Through his art and writings, Tejido makes a compelling case for embracing playfulness as a lifelong practice—one that sparks imagination, nurtures curiosity, and unlocks new possibilities.

In a world where adulthood often demands seriousness and routine, Manifesto of Play invites readers to reclaim the spontaneity and wonder of childhood. It is both a reflection on the artist’s own journey and an open invitation for others to cultivate a spirit of play in their own creative pursuits.

I wrote about Jomike's artistic process which he contextualized using his past works.
